What is this module used for and how does it work?
It is a bidirectional level converter that changes from almost any voltage to any voltage and detects the direction between two logic chips. It sits on a breadboard between the chips and does not provide strong output drive for LEDs or long cables.
Is this module compatible with I2C communication?
It does not work well with i2c because it uses strong pullups that confuse the direction sensing. If you need to use pullups you must use at least 50 k ohms; internal pullups to AVRs and for Arduino are about 100 k ohms.
Can I drive LEDs or long cables directly from this module?
