This optical sensor features five (5) IR LEDs with corresponding phototransistors that measure the amount of infrared light reflected from a surface. Light colors reflect light whereas dark colors absorb light. Each of the eight channels can be read directly by the digital I/O lines of your robot's microcontroller brain.
