3DXSTAT ESD-ABS

3DXSTAT ESD ABS is an advanced ESD-Safe compound designed for use in critical applications which require electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and a high level of cleanliness. Manufactured with consistency in mind, 3DXTECH starts with premium ABS and then compounds it according to a proprietary formulation of multi-wall carbon nanotubes – giving you a filament with excellent printing characteristics and consistent ESD properties.

Benefits of ABS Include

Durable and sturdy parts off practically every machine on the market

Easier to print than most industrial-grade materials

Higher melting point and thermal properties than PLA or PETG

Ideal for prototyping or end-use parts among both industry engineers and hobbyists alike

Ā

Benefits of 3DXSTATā„¢ Include

Consistent surface resistivity

Improved retention of impact & elongation

Low particulate contamination

Minimal contribution to outgassing and ionic contamination

Ā

ESD ABS

Typical ESD ABS Applications Include:

Semi-con: HDD Components, Wafer Handling, Jigs, Casings, & Connectors

Industrial: Conveying, Metering, and Sensing Applications

Ā

Target Conductivity for 3DXSTAT ESD ABS:

10^7 to 10^9-ohm surface resistivity on 3DP sampleĀ using concentric ring test method.

Note: Internal studies have indicated that increased extruder temperatures can achieve higher levels of conductivity. Likewise, lower extruder temperatures have resulted in lower levels of conductivity. Each printer is set up differently as well as varied part geometry. Therefore, expect some trial time to understand how ESD ABS filament works in your specific printer/application.

Ā

Surface Conductivity as a Function of Extruder Temperature:

The surface resistance of the printed ESD-safe part will vary depending on the printer’s extruder temperature. For example, if your testing indicates the part is too insulative, then increasing the extruder temperature will result in improved conductivity. Therefore, the surface resistance can be ā€˜dialed-in’ by adjusting the extruder temperature up or down depending on the reading you receive on your ESD ABS part.

Technical Data Sheet

Safety Data Sheet

What is 3DXSTAT ESD ABS and what surface resistivity does it provide?
It is an advanced ESD safe ABS filament enhanced with multi wall carbon nanotubes for consistent surface resistivity. Target range is 1e7 to 1e9 ohms on tested samples, and conductivity can vary with extruder temperature.
What filament sizes are available and how much material do you get per spool?
The filament is available in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm +/- 0.05 mm. Spool options include 750 g and 2 kg, and 2.85 mm is on order with lead time under 7 days.
What are the recommended print settings and drying instructions?
The recommended range is 220 to 240 C for the extruder and 100 to 110 C for the bed, with Magigoo bed prep and a heated chamber recommended. You may need to adjust extrusion multiplier up to 1.15 to 1.2 and vary fan speed from 50 to 100 percent; dry the filament at 80 C for 4 hours.
How does extruder temperature affect conductivity and how should I dial it in?
Internal studies show higher extruder temperatures can increase conductivity, while lower temperatures reduce it; since printer setups vary, you should iteratively adjust the temperature to dial in the surface resistance.
What are typical applications for this filament and what resistivity should I expect?
Typical applications include semi conductor HDD components, wafer handling, jigs, casings and connectors as well as industrial conveying, metering and sensing. Target surface resistivity is 1e7 to 1e9 ohms.
