CarbonX™ HTN+CF (High Temp CF Nylon) Printing Filament

CarbonX™ High Temp CF Nylon is an advanced, semi-aromatic polyphthalamide (PPA) reinforced with high-modulus carbon fiber. This polymer is widely used for metal replacement applications that must resist high mechanical loads at elevated temperatures and aggressive chemical environments. HTN has traditionally been a go-to material for demanding applications in automotive, aerospace, oil & gas, electrical, electronics, and industrial markets.

Extruder Temp: 285-315°C Bed Temp: 110-120°C Heated Chamber: Recommended Nozzle Specs: 0.4mm diameter minimum
Hardened Steel Nozzle

 Supports: X1 Water Soluble Support

Drying Specs: 90°C for 4+ hours Layer Height: 0.25mm or higher

Bed Adhesion

Magigoo Bed Prep
Nano Polymer Adhesive

Benefits of HTN+CF High Temp CF Nylon Include:

  • High thermal properties, with a Tg of 125°C, HDT of 240°C, and Tm of 265°C
  • Excellent strength and stiffness over a wide temperature range, up to 240°C, higher than ULTEM™ PEI
  • Very low moisture absorption yielding improved retention of mechanical properties even when exposed to humid environments
  • Outstanding chemical resistance to alcohols, acids, automotive and jet fuels, oils, lubricants, brake and transmission fluids, antifreeze, and Zn/Ca Chlorides

    Filament Specifications:

    1.75mm and 2.85mm +/- 0.05mm in diameter

    Recommended Print Settings:

    • Extruder: 285-315°C
    • Bed Temp: 110-120°C
    • Nozzle: We currently recommend a hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4mm
    • Other: Ideal layer height is 60% of nozzle diameter. We do not recommend printing layers smaller than 0.2mm with carbon fiber reinforced filaments
    • Bed Prep: Magigoo Bed Prep and 3DXTECH Polyimide Tape gives us the best results
    • Heated Chamber: Recommended
    • Supports: AquaTek™ water soluble X1 USM Universal Support Material is designed to work with complex model geometries
    • Drying Instructions: 90°C for 4 hours
What are the recommended extruder and bed temperatures for printing this filament, and is a heated chamber advised?
Extruder 285-315 C and bed 110-120 C are recommended. A heated chamber is recommended for best results.
What filament diameters are available and what nozzle size do you recommend?
Available diameters are 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm plus or minus 0.05 mm. A hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4 mm is recommended.
What are the recommended print settings and supports for this filament?
Layer height should be 60 percent of the nozzle diameter and should not be smaller than 0.2 mm for carbon fiber reinforced filaments. AquaTek water soluble X1 USM supports are recommended for complex geometries.
Why is this filament suitable for high temperature and chemical resistant applications?
Tg is 125 C and HDT is 240 C with a melting point of 265 C. The material offers strong stiffness up to 240 C, very low moisture absorption, and resistance to alcohols, acids, fuels, oils, and other chemicals.
Are there any drying steps required before printing?
Yes, dry the filament at 90 C for 4 hours before use.
