    Carbon Fiber

    What Is It?

Fibers 5-10 micrometers wide made of carbon. The fibers are aligned following the axis of the material. This, along with their physical makeup, are what gives this material its excellent properties.

    What Does It Do?

Carbon Fibers demonstrate a lot of desirable material properties:

    • High stiffness
    • High tensile strength
    • High heat tolerance
    • High chemical resistance
    • Low weight
    • Low thermal expansion

    Ā

    How Does It Work?
Reinforcing plastic with carbon fibers produces a 3D printing filament that exhibits the best properties of both the carbon fibers and the plastic of choice.

    What Is It Good For?

Ideal for any applications which require lightweight and rigidity. Carbon fiber reinforced parts, designed to use less material and save weight, are extremely popular in aerospace, civil engineering, the military, and motorsports.

    Ā

    Abrasive Material

This material is particularly abrasive among 3D printing filaments. Users may find standard brass nozzles are chewed through very quickly compared to standard wear and tear. When worn through, the nozzle diameter will widen inconsistently, and the printer will experience extrusion issues. Because of this, it'sĀ strongly recommendedĀ this material be printed through a hardened steel nozzle rather than a softer metal.Ā Hardened steel nozzlesĀ can often be inexpensive and easily installed depending on your printer manufacturer's instructions.

    Safety Data Sheet

What diameters are available for this filament and what tolerance should I expect?
Available in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm diameters with a tolerance of +/- 0.05 mm.
What are the recommended print settings for CarbonX PLA+CF?
Extruder temperature is 190 to 220 C. Bed temperature is 23 to 60 C. Use a hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4 mm; the ideal layer height is about 60 percent of the nozzle diameter and do not print layers smaller than 0.2 mm with carbon fiber reinforced filaments.
Is it suitable for printers without a heated bed or enclosure?
Yes, it is suitable for printing without a heated bed and does not require a heated enclosure.
What are the main benefits of CarbonX PLA+CF compared to standard PLA?
It provides increased stiffness, higher modulus, and improved dimensional stability, with low odor and high surface quality. It is renewable PLA and is compatible with Bambu AMS.
What maintenance considerations should I keep in mind when using this filament?
The material is abrasive and should be printed with a hardened steel nozzle to prevent wear.
