Phase laser ranging is generally well suited for measuring short and medium range distances. TheĀ laser sensorĀ provides measurements accurate to the millimeter level and is one of the most accurate distance measurement methods available. Many short-range ranging applications use this method. In phase ranging, the intensity of the emitted light wave is modulated by the signal, and time is measured indirectly by observing the phase difference. This methodĀ ofĀ High Precision Laser Distance SensorĀ is easier to handle than directly measuring round trip time.
Ā

Phase laser ranging involves utilizing the radio band frequency for amplitude modulation of the laser beam, followed by measuring the phase delay generated by the round-trip of the modulated light. This allows for conversion of the phase delay to represent distance based on the wavelength of the modulation light. The time for light to travel through the round trip measurement line is indirectly measured. Precision ranging commonly employsĀ phase distance sensors, known for their high accuracy typically at the millimeter level.
